Moois Magazine (tagline: “eyes open to the beauties of everyday life”), which uses my Futurosity Magazine WordPress theme, just won the Dutch Bloggies 2008 award for Best Art & Culture blog.
I wish the site was in English because it looks fascinating. And Google’s translation leaves a lot to be desired. Here’s the translation of the About blurb:
Beauty lies in the street. Of runs on the streets. Of highlights a screen of the cinema. Is your headphones off. Hide you quickly behind the sun visor of your car. Between all of the search for a bigger house, the selection of a shiny new lease car in a glossy brochure and planting bulbs for large flowers in the garden, you always find something good. Small moments that you share with someone. Large storms of love. That is Moois Magazine. The eyes open. To look around and appoint to others what you think worthwhile. As you ever did to your mother. Look Mom, those horses are still in the ditch. Take a picture with your phone and give you the link to mother Moois Magazine.
I love it! That’s poetry, man.
Congratulations to everyone at Moois Magazine!

That intro was very “Dutch”/idiomatic. A non-literal translation:
“Beauty is everywhere. It walks the streets. I shows itself on the cinema screen. Or narrowly escapes your headset. At times you hide it, quickly, behind a visor in your car. You will, at any moment, whilst searching for that bigger home, picking that new & shiny car from a glossy brochure, planting those tulips, discover something beautiful. A tender moment shared with a loved one. Torrential storms of passion. That’s what ‘Moois Magazine’ is all about. Open your eyes. Look around, and show others what you’ve noticed. Like you used to, holding hands with your mother. ‘Look Ma, those horses are about to tumble in that ditch.’ Next time, take a picture with your cell phone, post it here, and send your mother a link to Moois Magazine.”
Anyhoo, the bottom line is that anyone can be a writer for this communal blog. Do note: though Dutch by birth, I discovered the magazine looking for the ultimate WP theme…
Thanks, Cloggo! Great translation. I love the writing. Moois is very beautiful.
