If you’re more than a casual visitor to Futurosity, you’ve probably noticed that I haven’t posted in over a month. And I’ve been very spotty in responding to comments or pleas for help, which is very atypical of me. There’s a reason for this. It’s called “life”. What follows is a brief explanation.
This has been a most interesting year for me. Earlier this year, I experienced some fairly serious health problems (some of which I’ve recounted at Living With Atrial Fibrillation), which led to a lot of downtime and some somber soul searching. I became fully absorbed in taking care of my health so as to avoid being on drugs the rest of my life or undergoing a “procedure”. I don’t care what you call it, if they have to cut you open—even a small cut—I’m not interested, except as the absolute last resort.
It took several months, but I’m in good health now. I’m managing my problems through diet, exercise, lifestyle changes, and a handful of supplements and Chinese herbs. No drugs and no “procedures”.
This led me (I’m making a long story very short here) to rethink my professional life, too. Blogging and designing themes is a hobby for me. I’ve made my living for the past 18 years or so as a management consultant, facilitator, trainer, and executive coach. But I’ve decided to go back to college to become an acupuncturist. Why? The short answer is that I need to learn how to take better care of myself, I like to help people, and I’ve become convinced that our healthcare system is beyond broken. But don’t get me started…
School starts September 2nd and, if all goes well, I’ll be sticking needles in people for a living beginning sometime in 2012.
In the meantime, Futurosity is in limbo (as are some other web ideas I had brewing). If I find the time, I’ll redesign it (and release the design as a theme) and steer the content in the direction of my new interests.
So, just so you know: I’ll be checking in from time to time, but I won’t be a prolific poster and I’ll be slow to respond to comments (if at all). And, nothing personal, but I won’t have time to offer support (feel free to continue to post, though, since someone else may be able to help you).
Futurosity isn’t going anywhere, but things will change (subscribe so you won’t miss it when they do). And if you or anyone you know is looking for management consulting, facilitation for a strategy session or team building, or an executive coach, please let me know (view my LinkedIn Profile). Tuition is steep…

Thanks for the comments!
@Alexia: I’ll be studying acupuncture and integrative medicine, so I enjoyed your friend’s blog. Thanks!
Thanks for the update, I really love this site and the available themes so its good to know you’re doing well.
I encountered some problems with atrial fibrillation a couple of years ago myself, and was told that I would need to be on medication and/or undergo surgery. The doctor seemed sure of it… perhaps to scare me into change, or perhaps for less noble reasons. Like you I changed my diet and began to exercise more regularly and have had very few issues since. I think for most people its a manageable condition and I wish you luck with your efforts. Also thanks for linking to that website, some new information on there I hadn’t seen yet.
Thanks, Josh. Glad to hear you have your afib under control. I absolutely think most people can manage the condition without drugs. Most doctors simply aren’t interested in—or don’t know about—any alternatives to medication or surgery.
Glad to ear and read from you, Robert. I’m sure you’ll be great acupuncturist. Great as designer and man as you are.
In Italy, to wish good luck to someone, we use to say: “In bocca al lupo” (in the wolf’s mouth).
Take care. Blogging and bloggers can wait.
good to hear you’re doing well, robert… all the very best at college, sounds like an exciting move!
Sounds like a really positive response to a difficult situation. Hope things work out for the best. Best wishes for the future.
In addition to alternative healing, I would strongly consider getting an opinion about anti-coagulation treatment. You may be risking a stroke.
What a wonderful choice – studying acupuncture is a very rewarding experience! good luck with it
Glad to hear Robert. I’m a your fun and I love your Themes. And like Tiziano above I say to you “In bocca al lupo” from Roma… Good luck.
I feel very very proud to use your theme for my site…
and I hope that life now for you will be as careful as possible.
best regards
